CAN Tasks Politicians On Tolerance, Peace In 2014

can_logoThe Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun, on Thursday urged politicians to tolerate one another, embrace peace and unity in 2014.
The CAN Chairman, Rev. Fr. Martin Ajayi, gave the advice on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a special prayer to mark the beginning of 2014.
The cleric appealed to politicians to refrain from mudslinging against their rivals, saying such actions only heat up the polity and disrupt peace.
Ajayi said that the nation was looking for leaders who can serve and promote national unity rather than bring discord to an already tense polity.
The cleric said that leaders must justify the faith reposed in them by the electorate by coming together, irrespective of their political differences to foster development.
“God, who brought us together as a people, does not make mistakes.
“We are heading toward an election year; likewise, our leaders must consolidate on their developmental efforts by being honest with the people and telling the truth at all times.
“2014 should be used for making decisions and policies that will bring succour to the people.
“Our leaders must learn to uphold the interest of the nation rather than their own interests”, he said.
Ajayi urged adherents of all religions in the country to show love to one another to enhance the unity and progress of the nation. (NAN)
