APC Secretariat In Bayelsa State On Demolition List, Just 6 Days From Its Opening
Bayelsa State Government confirms that the newly-unveiled Secretariat of the All Progressive Congress (APC) is on demolition list.A Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seriake Dickson, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, confirmed in a statement that Governor Dickson’s directive was in keeping with the policy of the administration to ensure security of lives and property of residents and visitors to the State.
Gov. Dickson pointed out the building had long been earmarked for demolition alongside other structures, to make way for the second fly-over bridge to be constructed around the area.
However, he assured that the State Government has allocated the sum of N1 billion for paying compensations to the owners of the properties which would be affected by the project.
The Governor further stated that the upcoming demolition was not to witch-hunt anybody or group of individuals, but purely intended to bring about infrastructural development to the capital city of Bayelsa State, Yenagoa.
Gov. Dickson mentioned that a section of his personal property had been demolished in the past as well, due to expansion of the new Opolo/Elebele expressway. He said that this was a price everybody had to pay for the development of the critical infrastructure of the State.
It would be recalled that the APC had previouslyr accused the police and PDP agents in masterminding attacks on its office by unknown persons, who last week removed the party’s flags and signposts from the newly unveiled secretariat in Yenagoa.
