After Surviving Insurgency For Months, Auto Crash Kills Two Policemen


No fewer than two police officers were yesterday confirmed dead with several others sustaining varying degrees of injury in a ghastly accident at Ikpayongo, Aliade Local Government Area of Benue State.
The accident occurred when a bus conveying 48 officers of the Police Mobile Force who were travelling from Maiduguri in Borno State to Port Harcourt upon completion of an assignment in the besieged state, skidded off the road and  somersaulted.
One of the survivors of the accident who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard on his hospital bed at the Bishop Murray Hospital, Makurdi that the accident occurred at about 4 am when the vehicle had a collision with an on-coming bus.
“We were travelling from Maiduguri after undergoing a four-month special assignment on Boko Haram insurgency. At Ikpayongo, our bus slightly came in contact with a Marcopolo bus on high speed from the opposite side and  somersaulted, ending up in a ditch.
“I was in front of the vehicle. I saw as my colleagues were being evacuated.
At a point, I became unconscious.”
Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Daniel Ezeala confirmed the accident.
