22-year-old Olalekan Adetoyinbo, has been arrested by the Police and is in the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Osun State Police Command for allegedly killing his own father, 56-year-old Mr Ayodele Adetoyinbo by hitting him with a concrete block.

Olalekan, a 200-level student of Osun State College of Education, was on Wednesday, November 13, arrested by a team of police detectives from ‘B’ Division, Ijamo, Ilesa in Osun State and he confessed to the police that he committed the offence, saying that on his return from school on the fateful day, his father, Mr Ayodele Adetoyinbo (56), had accused him of stealing 10 empty kegs.
Olalekan said his explanation to his father that he knew nothing about the missing kegs fell on deaf ears, a situation which led to a heated argument between father and son.
He admitted hitting his father on the head with cement bricks, which led to the injury sustained by the older man.
In an interview with Crime Reports, the Economics/Political Science student from Ilesa town said:  “We live at Irojo, Ilesa. I am the first of seven children of my parents. I went to school on Sunday, November 10, to read in preparation for my exams. On Wednesday, November 13, my father called me to come and help him measure the chemical he would use in soap making.
“As I got home, he told me he could not find 10 of the kegs we were using to buy palm kernel oil for soap making. I told him I didn’t know anything about it. After I finished, I was leaving for school when I remembered that I didn’t take the receipt I would use as a pass for my exams in the school. I went back home for it but my father asked of the key to the house from me and I told him it was in school. He did not believe me and wanted to search my pocket. At that time, my mother was not around; only my siblings were around.
“He said he would not allow me to go if I didn’t give him the key. We started struggling and he used hoe stick to hit me. We dragged ourselves outside and we fell down. I took a concrete block to hit him and he fainted. I tried to take him to hospital but people did not allow me. He gave up the ghost and residents of the community started beating me before I was rescued.”
Crime Reports gathered that the deceased used a stick to hit his son when he refused to give him the key of the house he had with him. The man was said to have insisted on collecting the key so that his son would not have access to the house whenever he was not around, since he denied knowing anything about the missing kegs.
Olalekan reportedly took the stick from his father and hit the man. As the man fell, he allegedly dragged a concrete block from where it was placed and hit his father with it.
The man was said to have been covered with blood immediately as he started bleeding from the nose and head. He reportedly died shortly after. A police source told Crime Reports that detectives took the injured man to the hospital where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
When contacted, the state police spokesperson, Folasade Odoro, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the story, disclosing that the corpse had been deposited at Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa for autopsy.
She added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Dorothy Gimba, had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department, Osogbo, to take over the case for further investigation, adding that the suspect would be charged to court at the completion of investigations.
